We’re proud to share that ASP Enterprises is celebrating 50 years of business!
Today, ASP Enterprises is well known in the erosion & sediment control and geosynthetics industry, serving customers across the Midwest. How did we get to where we are today?
Founding & Early Growth
In the spring of 1976, ASP founder, Harold Bade, saw a commercial for the “miracle fabric” MIRAFI® – a black geotextile that promised to extend pavement life. He immediately recognized its potential for the engineers and contractors in his network.
Harold sold 20 rolls that first year, purchased a full truckload the next, and quickly became a trusted technical resource for the St. Louis engineering community at a time when geosynthetics were still a brand‑new concept.

He regularly brought Mirafi engineering specialists to St. Louis for multi‑day visits, filling their schedules with meetings and presentations. His hands‑on, “show me” approach earned him deep respect and positioned ASP as an early leader in a growing industry.

Expansion Into New Markets
By 1994, after 18 successful years in St. Louis, Harold was asked to bring his expertise to Kansas City market. For the first year and a half, ASP KC operated out of a basement, small but determined. Through hard work and relationship‑building, the branch grew steadily. Today, ASP Kansas City operates from a 20,000‑square‑foot facility on 5 acres, serving more than 1,000 customers.
Nearly 25 years into business, Harold was encouraged by several vendors to expand again, this time into the Omaha market. In the winter of 2000, ASP Omaha opened its doors. Harold’s right‑hand man, Wayne McFarland (currently 30 years with ASP), relocated from St. Louis to lead the new office. Alongside early team members Brian Williams (retired from ASP in 2021) and Lynn Ewoldt (currently 26 years with ASP), the Omaha branch quickly established itself.
In 2005, ASP Omaha moved to a larger facility to better serve customers across Nebraska, western Iowa, and southern South Dakota. That same year, ASP opened a warehouse in Wichita, Kansas, providing stocked and readily available materials for customers in southern Kansas and Oklahoma.

A New Era – Hale Family Ownership
In 2005, Harold experienced a serious health scare and knew it was time to place ASP in the hands of someone who would care for his people and continue the company’s legacy.
He found that person in John Hale. In 2006, ASP Enterprises was acquired by John Hale and officially joined the Hale Family of Companies.
John built on ASP’s strong foundation, relocating the St. Louis and Kansas City offices into larger facilities that supported expanded sales and additional space allowed ASP to enter the hardscape and landscape supply market. Landscape materials became a major part of the business beginning in 2011 in St. Louis and 2016 in Kansas City.

Forward Thinking & Continued Growth
As John Hale acquired additional companies in the geosynthetics and erosion control industry, ASP’s network of sister companies grew. In 2022, ASP introduced a new logo and updated branding to reflect its connection to the Hale Family of Companies, which includes ASP Enterprises, Bowman Construction Supply, Cascade Geosynthetics, and Quick Supply Co. Together, these companies serve customers from the Midwest to the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest.
Always focused on improving the customer experience, ASP opened a new office in Wentzville, Missouri, in 2024. This location strengthens service to the Greater St. Charles region and central Missouri, bridging the gap between the Kansas City and St. Louis offices.

Celebrating 50 Years
Now, 20 years after joining the Hale Family of Companies, ASP Enterprises is proud to celebrate 50 years in business. Our core values – Customer, Safety & Family – continue to guide every decision we make.
We remain a family‑owned and locally operated business dedicated to supporting the construction industry and making a positive impact in our communities.
Here’s to the next 50 years. We hope you’ll be part of the journey!
